Aethelflaed 2018 – Artist Commissions Announced

Gloucester Culture Trust is delighted to announce four commissions to Gloucestershire-based creatives.

Gloucester Culture Trust recently had an Open Call Out for artists, asking them to help Gloucester celebrate the 1,100 anniversary of the death of Aethelflaed, an Anglo Saxon warrior queen buried in St Oswald’s priory.

We received twenty-six inspiring and imaginative applications and are delighted to announce that we have awarded four commissions, ranging from theatre, music, visual arts and storytelling:

Grove & JPDL; Aethelflaed: Founding Mother on a Chessboard of Kings
George Moorey; Spaces
Shirley Halse; Storytelling workshops
Spaniel in the Works; The Ballad of Aethelflaed

Stay tuned for more information about these artists, their commissions and the wider celebration programme – coming soon!  Dates: 7th-12th June 2018.
