James shares his work on developing creative entrepreneurs

We’ve had a busy few weeks supporting creative entrepreneurs.

In September, I delivered a Creative Career Signposting Workshop to help creative people work out their next steps.  Twelve people attended to discuss their ambitions and work out next steps for developing creative careers.  Some were at early stages of setting up a creative business, others were already working freelance and wanted to explore ways to develop their work. I worked closely with Christina from Strike A Light to ensure the content was aimed appropriately at those working in the performing arts industry too.

October involved a three-day workshop series: Do What You Love, Start-up course for creatives. Start and Grow Enterprise delivered the course which was tailored specifically to suit those working in the creative industries. There were 18 participants who worked on developing their story and creating action plans to take their creative ideas forward.  Funding from the Great Place Scheme and European Regional Development Fund meant that the course was fully funded and therefore free to all that attended.

The Signposting Workshop and Do What You Love Course will be running again in Spring 2019. Interested or what to find out more? You can email me on james@gloucesterculture.org.uk – just let me know what you do and what support you think you would benefit from.  In the meantime, we continue to offer a free shared workspace at Blackfriars Inn Enterprise Hub every Wednesday.  Drop in between 10am – 5pm.  One of us is always around and there is also the opportunity of free creative business support between 3-5pm with lecturers from University of Gloucestershire.

Also coming up are another two PechaKucha Nights.  If you haven’t been before, they are a great way to find out what the creative people of Gloucester are up to through quick-fire presentations (and time for a drink and chat at the bar before and after!)  Here are the dates:

Volume 5: Tuesday 6th November at Dr Fosters Bar, The Docks, GL1 2ES

Volume 6: Wednesday 12th December at Liquor & Chow, Westgate Street, GL1 2NF

Keep posted for more updates soon.  Thanks for reading!

James
