About Us
We are a charitable organisation with ambitious plans to bring about long-term change in Gloucester through culture and heritage activities. We want to make culture a given, as part of a rewarding life.
Guided by a transformative, 10-year strategy, we are working with a huge range of partners to build an edgy, innovative, excellent, diverse and community-based cultural offer, with a strong focus on young people.
Across arts and heritage, we aim to bring cultural, economic and social benefits to our city and position Gloucester as a great place to live, work and play.
How did we get here?
In March 2016, Gloucester City Council signed off an ambitious ten-year strategy for the city. It was recognised that Gloucester had much more to offer culturally, so agreed six objectives to catalyse change:
1. Develop artists and arts organisations
2. Broaden the cultural offer to support social and economic development
3. Develop a vibrant city centre full of cultural activity and things to do
4. Develop audiences who enjoy the new cultural opportunities being created
5. Put Gloucester on the cultural map by developing high profile events
6. Make things happen to continue the momentum for change
To deliver the strategy, Gloucester City Council made a bold and distinctive move: they agreed to devolve the strategic decision-making power for culture to an independent body and Gloucester Culture Trust (GCT) was born!
What we’re up to now…
Everything we do supports our long-term ambitions, from creating a vibrant city centre with plenty of things to do, to developing the next generation of artists and creatives.
This film by JPDL & Fluxx Films sums up why we do what we do, and how the voices of Gloucester residents are shaping our work.
