Making culture part of everyday life means making sure it threads through all the city’s policies and aspirations. Here are some of projects and initiatives that we’re working on:
Update to Gloucester’s Cultural Vision & Strategy 2021-2026

Gloucester City Council have formally adopted the city’s refreshed cultural vision & strategy at the half way point of this exciting 10 year journey.

Regeneration in the city
We are helping to shape the plans for Kings Square, the City Council’s major regeneration project, which aims to put art and cultural activity at the heart of the city centre’s renaissance.

Kings Square is the home of JOLT; a creative hub that provides support and space to help artists and creatives build and develop careers in the creative industries. Click here to head to the JOLT website.
We have also been exploring the potential for a major new venue for the city – and what practical steps we need to take to make it a success. For now, we are focusing on how we can help build the current infrastructure we have in Gloucester. This includes working closely with venues such as Gloucester Guildhall, working in partnership with arts & cultural organisations and supporting our local artists. The Cathedral Quarter High Street Heritage Action Zone is funded by Historic England as part of its ‘High Street Heritage Action Zone’ scheme. It is supported by the community through the Cathedral Quarter Partnership and will be run by Gloucester City Council. It follows the city council’s successful bid for £1.9million to restore some of the architecturally significant buildings in the Westgate area of the City, bringing them back to their former glory along with a programme of activities and events to engage the local community with the heritage of the area.
Working with local people and partners, the Cathedral Quarter project will help to breathe new life into Westgate Street which is rich in heritage and full of potential, making it more attractive to residents, businesses, tourists and investors.

Promoting the city’s cultural offer
During Covid-19 lockdown, we worked with Flying Geese Marketing & Development Consultancy to deliver a training programme for arts & heritage organisations in Gloucester. The key aim of the course was to support the promotion of the city’s ever-growing cultural offer, especially to support organisations in developing their programmes and marketing initiatives post lockdown. In addition to the training programme, six organisations have been receiving bespoke mentoring support.
From 2017 to early 2020, wen also invested in Marketing Gloucester (the city’s former Destination Marketing Organisation) to create and develop the GLCard, a loyalty card for residents and visitors, to promote attractions and events and grow audiences.
