Together Gloucester

What is it?

Together Gloucester is an ambitious programme putting communities at the heart of cultural decision making. It is a partnership between cross sector organisations that will ignite a collective spirit, developing talent of local people and empowering communities to create cultural events that animate and excite, reflecting Gloucester’s unique identity.

Why are we doing it?

People are what make Gloucester a unique and special city – so over two years we asked communities and organisations – how can we work together to empower people? Feedback showed residents want Gloucester to be a better place to live, work and visit with more activities and things to do. Organisations from across the city want to support these ambitions and recognise culture as a mechanism for nurturing these aspirations. Forging connections across sectors to deliver these common goals was identified as having the potential to make long term step change and benefit us all.

What will happen?

How can communities get involved?

• Become a member of the citizens panel – are you interested in co-creating a three year vision for cultural activity in Gloucester?

• Apply for funding for a project you want to run in your community for your community. – We’re inviting you to dream up events you want to see on your doorsteps – Perhaps you want to start a gallery in your local shop? Want to run a knitting circle? Plan regular music night in a local community centre? Run monthly outdoor story telling circles? Paint a mural on a block of flats?

• Take part in training programmes – would you like to produce events, run an organisation, open a pop-up gallery, raise more money for events in your community?

The Programme

How is it funded?

Together Gloucester is an ambitious scalable project over the next three years.

We’re proud to have secured £500k investment from Arts Council England, in conjunction with a £450k contribution from Gloucester City Council’s festivals and events budget, and significant investments from project partners. Our journey continues, working with other funders and sponsors to grow this programme for the city.

Together Gloucester has been developed by Gloucester Culture Trust and partners Active Gloucestershire, Gloucester BID, Gloucester City Council, Gloucester Community Building Collective, Gloucestershire Gateway Trust, GUST, The Music Works, University of Gloucestershire and Young Gloucestershire.
